Winter Hibernation

So spring is here. I love all the bees buzzing around the blooming flowers and trees. But I could do without the mowing and blowing that goes on. What is the obsession with shaving blades of grass down to their nubs and then blowing said clippings into the street? I think that dandelions and waving stands of greenery have a more calming effect. When once I thought that I couldn't stand frozen fingers in the wintertime, I've decided it was a more quiet time and a cherished one at that.

After finding the forum at The Committee to Keep Music Evil, I have been enlightened tenfold. I appreciate all of the information that people share. The fact that even band members get involved in the conversation is just what is needed to keep us all up-to-date on their goings on. Thanks to Aislinn from The Asteroid No. 4 for all of her input. I love your music....can't get enough!

SchoolKids Records

Nobody seems to care that local record stores close their doors. "I just download all my music", says the nimrod who was born in 1992. That's great lil youngin. Why don't you go to the forest and text your friends? In fact, better yet, keep texting as your walking and fall off of a cliff. Believe it or not, there's more to life than your blackberry. Kudos to my local record store, SchoolKids, for not shutting down. Keep it flowing and I will keep coming in for the music that swirls in my head. Thanks for being there!

The Brian Jonestown Massacre Live
Since The Brian Jonestown Massacre show I have been on a constant search for audio/video of the show at Cat's Cradle. Let me say, I finally found 11 of them on youtube! Man, I must have had too many beers because now I am remembering more after seeing it all again. I mean, Anton wasn't even drinking on stage but I'm guessing he was having 'some other' kind of fun....what a trip it was!

Better places to live
Cool places to live have to have good public transportation, good music venues, open-minded people, brew pubs, co-ops, and drinking water from my tap not heavily chlorinated. These are at the top of my list...and what I've found in my current spot doesn't compare to other places I've lived. My hubby and I are thinking it's definitely time to hit the road again. We love to pick up and move. After finally getting away to hear one of our favorite bands at The Cat's Cradle, we realized that we truly do live in the toilet bowl. I mean, wow, Chapel Hill and Carrboro are on a whole other level! It seems that the more west you go in this state, the more liberal it gets. I guess that's why the west coast has a certain fondness in my heart. Well, we gave it a shot but it may be time to hit the road once again...

The Brian Jonestown Massacre

April 7, 2009...Carrboro, NC...Well, it was my fourth time to see BJM and boy, was this a fantastic show! I couldn't have asked for better entertainment. All the boys were focused and played well. Now, I'm not a musician and I can't really talk about chords and riffs but I know that I was in heaven the entire 2 hours. I really made an attempt to pay attention (even though I'm only 5 foot) and can't see past all the tall yahoos usually. I have to say that at The Cat's Cradle, people aren't pretentious and rude. They are actually friendly and good-natured. Usually at a BJM show, everyone in the crowd acts as snobby as the musicians. So I was pleasantly surprised. The band played pretty intensely but the show was relatively laid back. I was really impressed the way they all handled themselves. Maybe their just getting older and wiser. No fights, just good music to send us all home happy.
